Poorna Jagannathan Stands with Palestinians, Appeals for Israeli Ceasefire in Gaza
Renowned celebrity Poorna Jagannathan, along with top artists Adam Lambert, Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid, and several others, has signed an open letter urging President Joe Biden and Congress to push for a ceasefire in the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.
The open letter, called The Artists4Ceasefire, demands that President Joe Biden and Congress work towards a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and Hamas. It was sent to Biden and Congress in an effort to persuade the United States government to convince both parties to de-escalate hostilities in the region after weeks of fighting.
In the open letter, Poorna Jagannathan conveyed the following message:
“Children and families in Gaza have practically run out of food, water, electricity, medicine, and safe access to hospitals, following days of airstrikes and cuts to all supply routes. Gaza’s sole power plant ran out of fuel, shutting down electricity, water, and wastewater treatment. Most residents can no longer get drinking water from service providers or household water through pipelines. The humanitarian situation has reached lethal lows, and yet all reports point to further attacks. We ask that, as President of the United States, you and the US Congress call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost.”
Poorna Jagannathan’s participation in signing the Artists4Ceasefire letter showcases her concern for the Palestinians and indirectly calls on Israel to stop the relentless attacks on Gaza, which have claimed the lives of thousands of women, children, and elderly individuals.

Infrastructure destroyed in besieged Gaza

These figures paint a grim picture of the destruction being faced by the people of Gaza. However, amidst all this, there is a glimmer of hope as support for a ceasefire in Gaza has come from individuals like Poorna Jagannathan, showing compassion towards the plight of Palestinians enduring relentless air and ground attacks by Israel in Gaza, Palestine.
